Kelp 10th anniversary about to get under way tonight at Zibibbo and then tomorrow at the Barrymores'. Chris and Jason and I spent the night screening the editioned and soon to be quite collectible posters for the weekend. Ten years ago I was working in the basement of Andre Lalone tuning skiis and snowboards and going out at lunch for beer only to return back to the ski machines after all the while getting ready to go on my first long tour of my life. Now I am old and creaky and still waiting to go on tours. Only now, a little more carefully.
Happy birthday to Colin and Brendan and Heidi and Leigh and Willie and oh hell to me as well. Let the Taurus stand before dusk...

Calgary
What fun we did have this weekend. Thanks so very much to Brent Oliver, John Bowers, Lorrie, Jenn and all the other kind and wonderful folks we met on this trip.
With the Leafs dropping the first two, Chris is looking for his team to rebound so that he does not have to wear some other Jersey at the Exclaim CUp next year. In what is being called an "arrangement" not a bet, Chris and Brent Oliver struck a deal that would see Brent perform in a leafs jersey during the 2005 Exclaim cup music night if the Leafs were to win the cup. If they do not win, Chris Page will be performing in the jersey of the team that eventually wins. Confusing? No? Good.
With our camera full of evidence, we will be returning home tomorrow from what was a fantastic weekend indeed. Great shows and good times were had by meself and the singer affectionately know by Bell Canada as "Eric Pate".
Although I think I neglected to pay our tab at the Black Dog. I have been on the phone today from Calgary looking into what is the true answer in this matter.
Of to Winnipeg for six hours and then home,

Happy Wednesday
Well the end of the road came last night for our hockey team here in Ottawa. An odd way to play a deciding game, me thinks. I am quite proud of all they have done this year, but that first period last night was hard to watch. Now I have to listen to all my Toronto following friends humbly talk about how we just need a goalie.
Here is the Western Canadian weekend itinerary. Sorry to Craig Elliot for my brain cramp and leaving the radio show appearance off of my last e-mail our. My late night, post Senators washout writing.

Awe, Friday it is and despite being out late last night looking at the city through Miches' "wall" of windows up on the 10th floor, I have been up for awhile. I am going out to the Eastern Townships tomorrow night to play a show and then I am having lunch on Sunday in Montreal. A good way to spend a couple days. And then I almost forgot, next week is almost here and that is when Chris Page and I are flying out to the great land of Alberta for a few days. Money Losing but good fun inducing it should be.
I am trying to listen to the Al Franken Air America, but despite the program schedule, it keeps telling they are off the air right now. Did I miss it, or have they folded already or have been shut down?
I cannot imagine either of those scenarios so I will try again. Just tried no luck, so on to KCRW then. This is a great station as well. What am I thinking, I have to listen to Johns' show on CKCU. I always forget when it is Friday, and it is Friday now.
If you like to get up late and want to feel like you get up early, listen to online radio from California, they are reading the Eight O'clock news right now.

Good News Fast Food Friends
Bold New Menu Change For McDonald's

Bowing to pressure from an obesity-plagued nation, McDonald's has announced a bold new menu item: Adult Happy Meals that feature salad, bottled water, a pedometer, and the advice to walk more. The Associated Press reports that the campaign even has a name: "Go Active!" The Adult Happy Meals will be introduced in a marketing blitz on May 6 at all 13,600 McDonald's restaurants nationwide. In June it will roll out healthier choices for kids' Happy Meals, including the option to substitute apple slice and juice for fries and a soft drink.

Please, can someone deliver Ottawa a goal or two. Do we have to watch all of this happen every year. Watch shut out after shut out. Ok, our city is home to sponsorship scandals and all the bad that comes with being home to the federal government, but cannot we not be given a little good news this month. I cannot take watching all of of the blue bloods in this town passively poke at us day after day.
I have been enjoying this rainy weather today. I have a bit of a cold and have used it as the reason for me to not go anywhere. Calm day indeed...
Good Friend news: Jeremy gara and Kate Maki leave next week to play a week and a half of shows with Howe Gelb openning for Wilco. Exciting week they are to have out there...

Happy Easter everybody:
I am home from our Songbird Millionaires latest Excliam cup excursion. We hit the wall I would say this year, losing two out three and not making it to the playoff rounds. Some of the fellows on the teams seemed quite bothered by this, but I just found it all confusing. Too many players, strange line-shifts, bad communication. If anyone is looking coach a bunch of over 30 tired musicians, writers and painters next year, let me know.
What in the fuck was I thinking. I am not in great shape, but every year I go and almost die and come home and take a week to recover. Although there is one thing I do love, which is getting motivational speeches before the "big" games from our leader "Dutchy". He talks of the pride and honour and heart and how we must work together. I think he might write them in the bathroom on the morning before these "big" games.
Another fun thing about this tournament is the bar enertainment. Every team has to put together twenty minutes of music. Some are good, some are bad, and most get heckled. This year, Josh did a little stand up rountine in his "Unknown Wrestler" alter-ego. Then we played a modified version of Putting on the Ritz, followed by Blake and I have a "soft shoe" dance off, which he ran away with after doing hand stands, windmills and some front flips. We did the team pyramid, which collapsed once, and by that time, it was last call and I went back to our motel and checked for bruising from the initial collapse.
John Bartlett did arrive at the tournament with a bag full of new buttons for me to give away at shows. Rolf Klaussner did the design and I think they look great.
Thanks in part to the encouraging of Chris Page, I went ot yesterday and bought the long forgotten/unavailable Paul Simon Songbook. Recorded in London in 1965 and only released in Europe, it contains many of the songs which later became the "hits". Along with the Bob Dylan 1964 New York concert CD, is filling my days with folk.
Brad Crowe sent me this morning an MP3 remix of a live solo piano version of Satelite. I will put it up on the site this week hopefully.
That was my weekend...

Thanks so very much to all the folks who came out to the Blacksheep this past Sunday and to the Horseshoe the weekend before. Boths shows were loads of fun and I even learned accidentally the Law and Order theme music as well. Casey Comeau was wonderful up in Wakefield. Her all too short set knocked everyone out. Draves was majical on the symphonic accordian . I played Satelite way off from its' normal key, but he found me anyway...

I know enough to delete the wrong thing, but not enough to get it back and erase the correct item. I know this is true. I am truely causing myself strain today. I do not know how to fix my laptop problems.
