New Week, New Post:

Well, this will be a quiet week around the house for me. On the Weekend, a few of us went skating in the Carleton Cup, which is a ice skating race down the entire length of the Rideau Canal. Sloans' Chris Murphy won this race, and it was also to many folks surprise that he had finished top five in the two previous years as well. I came in with a completely unremarkable time of 42minutes and change, which I am sure might have been better had I:

1.) Had any respectable level of physical condition.
2.) Not spent the race consistently seeing race numbers pass me while never actually passing anyone myself.
3.) Had we finished off the race on the proper side of the canal and not watched the French singer at the winter amphitheatre for a song and a half while we took off out skates.

Safe to say this race was over for all of us almost as soon as it started. About 100 took off and I never saw them again. It would have been fun to have a recorder for play by play, cause Rob Hinchly and I were a sad duo out there.

We are lucky it ottawa with the canal, I went out again today for an hour and listenned to some Kitchen Confidential on audibook.

Kitten Sitting

For the last week, Lisa and I have been house sitting a great kitten named Zero and that will end today. Awesome cat and I am sure our cats will miss the energy level it provided as much as we will around here.

Friday

Thanks to everyone who came out Friday for the show. We raised over $2000 for Jenna and her family, which is great news. It was a very wonderful atmosphere, and if anyone took photos', let me know, cause I always leave my digital camera at home now when I need it.

Edwards

I will spend the next couple of weeks putting the final touches on getting gear for the upcoming tour schedule with Kathleen. I am going to use my ibook as a sound source, so that will take some getting used to. I also found out that we are playing David Letterman on March 2nd.

I mentioned to Kathleen that she should set up a blog on her site and we could keep tour diaries throughout the next year. I will post a number of photos' and audio clips and stuff here as well.

Jeremy

Kepler alum Jeremy Gara and the Arcade Fire will be on Conan O'Brien Tuesday night, so set the VCR or Satelite recorder or whatever you have.

Goodnight January....

Our friend Jenna Devine was in a horrific car accident January 2nd while on vacation in Mexico. Although the prognosis is very good, she has been undergoing extensive and expensive medical attention throughout the month in Mexico. I cannot imagine what her family is going through during this time of adversity.

We understand this is a difficult time to raise money given the recent, overwhelming magnitude of world tragedies in South East Asia and Africa, but felt it was important to try to help Jenna and her family get through their own trying situation.

Erin Pattee, Lisa Baird and I have organized a benefit at the Black Sheep Inn on Friday, January 28th. The Department of Foreign Affairs, myself, Andrew Vincent and Chris Page will be playing sets and we will also be offering raffle tickets for
donated prizes such as CD packs, gift certificates and other prizes. These tickets will also be available through the Manx Pub for purchase leading up to the 28th and also at the event.

Thank you so much to Paul Symes at the Black Sheep Inn for giving us a night on such short notice.

Hey All:

Not much going on here. I just did some dishes while listening to internet Podcasts. I have discovered these after getting a link in an e-mail from the newly relocated Patè. Now, only a few days later, its seems like I have listened to hours and hours of these things.
A few that I discovered right away:

1. The Dawn and Drew Show
2. Mac Cast
3. Adam Curry

Anyhow, I also started mucking around with the Garageband software. I took a song I started recording with Draves and dumped it in an added banjo and microkorg and some other little things. Kept me up late, but it was sure fun. The plan is to put Logic Lite or Pro Tools LE eventually on the ibook and travel and record different things throughout the year and then come home and compile and maybe record a record from the songs that work. Perhaps I could use some of what I record myself, but I am trusting my own abilities to that extent yet.
As well, for those who look to the right side of this "news" page, I updated the links and thought about adding some details to them. I wonder if that matters? Does it? Also, is it bad to like Canned Heat?

We are putting together a small benefit show for our friend Jenna Devine, who was seriously injured in a car accident in Mexico two weeks ago. We have The Black Sheep booked for Jan. 28th. I will get more details up in a a couple of days.

Happy Sunday all,

CBC Music Day(Jammin' Downtown):

Join CBC/Radio-Canada for JAMMIN’ DOWNTOWN, a free musical celebration sure to warm up even the coldest winter day, on Friday, January 14th in Studio 40 of the CBC Broadcast Centre at 181 Queen Street.

This party begins at 11 a.m. and includes three separate concerts, each one packed with an amazing mix of musical talents from the region and the province. Stars include Sarah Slean, the Mighty Popo, Jim Bryson, The Acorn, Maria Hawkins, the Rideau Lakes Brass Quintet, the Vince Rimbach Jazz Quartet and many more, bringing together classical, jazz, pop, blues, rock and world music beats.

The event is free but as space is limited, tickets must be reserved in advance. Call (613) 288-6545 to reserve your ticket now. Tickets can be reserved for one, two, or all three shows, depending on availability. The public can enter the building at 181 Queen Street.

I am playing during the 3:30 radio concert and the 7:30pm TV/Radio concert. Click HERE
for all the detail. I will be joined by Dave Draves for these concerts.

Also, for those reading, the most recent No Depression magazine features a review of a show from last fall at the Rivoli wth Kathleen playing violin and mandolin.

Thanks to a e-hint from Dr. Pate, I went over and looked at Bradleys' Almanac tonight and starting wondering about the world of Podcasts. Well, now I have spent the night listenning to radio stream shows that you can dump into itunes and then onto ipods. Maybe too much time on my hands? Looking at ipodderx.com , i found a number of great stuff to listen to, including NPR radio shows. Anyhow, this is what I did tonight. It is a bit late, but lisa and i are going to watch Festival Express now...
