(Kelp Honcho JD Bartlett picking the perfect SXSW hat)

Hi Folks:

I am ashamed of myself for not posting since before our Blacksheep shows. The days following were fairly hectic with Kathleen shows and driving and getting things sorted and learning how to play guitar again and my iBook crashing multiple times. Thanks to the most excellent Ian Price and his Ian's Mac Service for the life saving help.
The Mayer of Jessica:

Well, Jessica Simpson made two appearances thus far on this surreal arena tour we are on. She looks quite well tanned and other than that, I have no other information. Robbie McKintosh is playing guitar and he was on all the Talk Talk and some Pretenders' records and is a most excellent fellow. Mostly it is the catering staff who we talk to as they are always waiting for us and keeping things open on our late ass behalf.

Jill Barber:

Western Canadian friends, I will hopefully see some of you thanks to the kindness of my awesome friend Jill Barber and her willingness to drag me along on tour.
CBC Radio 3 is sponsoring the tour that will be taking from Winnipeg to Tofino.

Here are the shows:

May 3rd: West End Cultural Centre Winnipeg Man. May 4th: Amigos', Saskatoon SK. May 5th: Velvet Underground, Edmonton AB. May 7th: The Ironwood, Calgary AB. May 8th: Habitat, Kelowna, BC. May 9th: The Media Club, Vancouver BC. May 10th: Gibson Auditorium, Victoria BC. May 11th: The Legion, Tofino BC.

Press and Things:

Thanks to those kind people who have been writing some nice things about this little tortoise of a record, all of us involved in it's making and release appreciate it.

Hockey and all That:

I try to stay out it for the most part, but we have had some pretty terrific hockey experiences in the last week. Thanks to Lane and Kathleen for bringing Lisa and I along to the antics and joy of game 5 in Ottawa last week and also to Tex from HOB for getting us a full look at the Habs dressing room at the Bell Centre the other night.

Well, that is all for now, thanks everyone for the completely overwhelming experience at the Blacksheep Inn back there on the 14th and 15th.

Thanks so much to Peter and Jeremy and Jake and Jon and Dave (great dance idea sir) and also The Soiree, Male Nurse, Tom, Paul and everyone for being a part of a really memorable and special time.

Kelp Weekend:

Hey Ottawa folks, it breaks my heart that I missing my first Kelp Anniversary weekend as a roster member of the little train that might.

But you should not miss it, check out the detain HERE

Over rovers,

jim,

Montreal Show Added:

Hi all, me again. We have just been asked last minute to open tomorrow evening for the amazing and resurrected Wooden Stars at the Main Hall in Montreal. We are playing 2nd out of 3 (the middle child) the show starts at 10pm. Jeremy is playing drums as Peter is already committed with the Jupiter Ray Project tomorrow evening. So sort of just like the Howe line-up we had before Christmas.

Here it is in a easy to understand format:

Jim Bryson (w/ Jeremy Gara, Jake Bryce, Dave Draves, Jon Lowow)
w/ The Wooden Stars
Fiday April 13th
Main Hall, Montreal, PQ

Hello All:
I just spent 30 minutes on the phone with a Bell employee (actually #6007423) who was repeatedly explaining to me why my cell phone bill was $362.00 from our trip to SXSW. This is not why I am posting and writing you. But if it matters in the world of small victories though, I am getting almost $175 of it back next month.

Thank You:
That is not why I am writing, no, no, no...I am here just to give to heads up and details on this weekend's Black Sheep Inn CD/LP release shows. A lot of time and work from many people have made this release possible and I want to thank all of you who have altered your sleep schedules, made odd-houred poster pickups, made very last second liner note credit changes (even when the credits are handwritten), canceled your other band rehearsals and all of that jazz. I really do appreciate all that folks have done over the last many months. You know who you are and I here thank you.

Show Details:
Continuing in the long but slightly disorganized tradition of my shows, I went away right when posters needed to be put up. However, the street team of Jon Bartlett and Lisa Baird came to the rescue and managed to get the information up and around parts of the city.

I am excited to have the full "holiday" edition of the band together for these shows. Jake Bryce, Peter von Althen, Dave Draves, Jeremy Gara (on shore leave) and Jon Lomow will be shaking, rattling and rolling through songs old and new. There are songs that have been dusty for more than two years, songs not yet played and songs played in several forms. Songs, songs, songs.

The details of these appearances appear under here:

Jim Bryson and the "more than" Ocassionals

Saturday April 14th, Doors 8pm (w/ The Soiree)

Sunday April15th, Doors 3pm (w/ Male Nurse).

Black Sheep Inn, Wakefield, PQ. $15 ADV.

Tickets at : Compact Music Locations and here at : www.ticketweb.ca
*There is a bus running on the Saturday night.

*The Bus:
Ah the bus. It leaves from the Dominion Tavern at 8pm sharp and returns at 12:30am after the show. Please e-mail Jon at jon@kelprecords.com if you want a seat on the bus. Booking these big yellow taxis' are expensive if people do not end up using them, so please book your spot now and save Jon having to book off work on stress leave.

iTunes / Zunior:
For those who like this sort of thing (people living in the iPod world I live in), Where the Bungalows Roam is on the Staff Favourites at iTunes this week.

But a little birdie told me that if you download from Zunior.com, you get the extra track that appears on the vinyl.

LPs':
As mentioned at kelprecords.com, the vinyl is in and ready for you to take home. It looks marvelous thanks to Jake and Amy and sounds pretty darn OK too. The LPs come with a coupon for the whole record in MP3 format (thanks Zunior.com) and contain one non-CD song.

Bye for now:
That is all from me here. We shall return in some form this summer in the general area, but for now, I guarantee this is the only set of band shows happening in the next almost two months here or away.

Have a great week,

Jim.
